Another hostel for our pilgrims!!!
In the hamlet of Campi di Bibbiena – AR, (“CHAMP del Monaco Alberto” at the bottom of the Sacred Valley, towards Arezzo) the small hostel located on the Via Romea (stage 29) and on the path of St. Francis was inaugurated. We are in fact just a short walk from the sanctuary of La Verna, after crossing the Apennines at Passo Serra along the Sacred Valley and meeting Casa Santicchio, the arrival point of stage 28.
The hostel, all on the ground floor, has four official places, with room, kitchen, bathroom also for the disabled and was made out of the former municipal school.
The participation of the people of Campi was enthusiastic and, at the end of the inauguration, they treated guests to a rich lunch of Tuscan specialties, from wines to dishes.
Not the least of which was a very tasty “porchetta” that only here they know how to make!
The hostel, paid for with LAG funds and partly with resources from the municipal budget, can give hospitality to pilgrims on foot or bicycle before the passage of the Corsalone River, and thus of La Verna and/or Chitignano.
Management has been given to the ARCI Recreational Club of Campi, which is very active in the hamlet.
Three phone numbers and three emails are given.
One of the issues they will soon resolve is that of food supply because Campi lacks stores or trattorias.
Mayor Filippo Vagnoli, with Councillor Francesca Nassini and guide Corrado Andreini led a large group of walkers who from the main square of Bibbiena, passing by the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, walked to Campi, following the Via Romea.
It was an opportunity for us to meet the Via Romea volunteers, such as our friend Giuliano, who has been keeping an eye on the route between Passo Serra and Arezzo for more than a decade.
Via Romea congratulates the administration and the people of Campi. Information can also be obtained from the Casentino Archaeological Museum, in Bibbiena (https://www.arcamuseocasentino.it)
